Between Costiera Cilentana and Costiera Amalfitana, at the gates of the UNESCO world heritage site named Cilento National Park, is Piana Del Sele. A 700 square kilometer territory, particulary well-suited for agriculture and livestock grazing. Piana del Sele is favoured by temperate climate and an exceptionally fertile soil: she is also crossed by Sele, one of the biggest rivers in Campania. Centuries of farmers and innovators tried a great range of fruit and vegetables before specializing in minimally processed food and aromatic herbs; they were also blessed by being very close to the Scuola Medica Salernitana in Salerno, the institution responsible for creating the first official recipe book for physicians and pharmacists, a volume which lists officinal plants and their properties.
